Yello Life

An old computer band goes life

The members of cult band Yello are 65 and 72. They start to left their mark on the music business at the end of the 70!

Now, they playing a concert – life concert – with real musicians in Olympia Halle in Munich. They done this never before. And I was there. The card was in my pocket – since a year ago. And it was not cheap.

So – whats the result? It was cool – but Yello is no a life band. Never was! But Mr. Boris Blank knows how to handle a computer. He demonstrate what is possible today.

And Mr. Dieter Meier knows to handle his voice. And together they are Yello. Since 37 years they know how to rush, push and cash.

Synth Pop

Electronic Music from Yesterday?

I jumped a little around in Spotify. From one song to another. And suddenly I came to a playlist – made from Spotify itself.

Synth Pop

For a guy – so old as I am – this is real time jump! Some titles are in my saved playlists, but some I totally forgot. I had the feeling I didn’t here this songs the last decades.

Another part of the songs are totally new for me. But they are from the same age. What does this mean? Was it possible, that we were not right informed in the old days? Is it nowadays easier to be informed? Was has this for consequences to the hole life, personal, political and seen on the entire life?

So many questions. And no answer – not today! 🙂

Herbie Hancock in Concert

Free Jazz – how free are you?

Yesterday, I got a message. Are you flexible, was the question. Yes I am flexible! Herbie Hancock is in town.

One of the heroes of the early eighties. First I thought I knew him from “numma, numma, numma, nineteen”, but no – this was Paul Hardcastle. Mr. Hancock, now a legend in Jazz, brought me in my youth songs like “Rockit”. You know this song – I am sure! 🙂

A quick research on Spotify got me some more information about his work. And if you like Jazz, you know some of his songs.

So – a few hours later I am sitting in the concert hall of Gasteig in Munich. And with me Herbie. What then happened was not expected from me.

Four guys, Herbie on Keyboard and Piano, a Bass Guitar hero, some Drummer guru and and a man with Keyboard and Saxophon start to play music. But then, it started to become interresting.

After a minute with synthysizer sounds like in space, they played Free Jazz (I think).

Free – like – everybody can play what he wants – and magical – it sounds not soooo bad. I like the variations in Jazz. But this was very free in variations.
After the first set, let’s say after 20 minutes, Herbie grabs a microfone and start talking. He says, “the munich audience is fantastic”! First i thought – this is the guy saying everywhere. But then I understand. Some people of the audience was leaving the building. Not everyone like so much freedom. 🙂

And he was happy, that most of the munich audience stayed, until the end.
On the next day, I saw this tour was under the motto “Spacey und weird“. And yes, it was spacey – and sometimes it was weird. But it was possible to get used to it – even to like it.

And so – we stayed also, until the end.

Should he come back in town someday – its possible to concider another concert with Herbie Hancock.

The blog is dead – long live the blog!

This was my first blog entry in a new blog format. I used not a dynamic framework anymore – like WordPress – but now I am back. It was now done with a static site generator.

If you want to know more, take a look at the slides of my DOAG 2017 speach.

The second change in my blog is about the language. It is not german any more, mostly. All old content is still german, but all new things will be in english. Will you still follow me as before? I am sure, you will!

Why is that? So – I don’t know – perhaps, because I can!

Playerunknown’s Battleground

I don’t want to show off or anything, but i played a few minutes ago Playerunknown’s Battleground for the first time in my life. It’s one of the most saled games on Steam right now. Almost 100 guys are thrown in a landscape and have to survive, while the accessible level will be smaller every few minutes.

And i lived almost until the end. A shot from nowhere and i saw this:

I am so proud! And if you don’t think this is a success – then go away! 🙂
